Sitting at a retreat centre in Zhadima village, Nagaland—far from Chalakudy in Kerala and high above sea level—there comes a deep awareness of something extraordinary: the tangible presence of the Holy Spirit. In that quiet moment, the promise of Jesus echoes in the heart—“He will be with you forever.”
This truth reminds us that no matter where we go—whether railway stations, airports, mountain roads, or even hospitals—we are never alone. The comfort we receive is not just a feeling or energy, but the presence of a Person—the Holy Spirit.

Many people think of the Holy Spirit as a force or power. However, Scripture reveals something much deeper. The Holy Spirit is a divine Person—someone we can know, experience, and relate to personally.
The Bible says:
“But he, full of the Holy Spirit, gazed into heaven and saw the glory of God…” (Acts 7:55)
This shows that the Holy Spirit is not distant. He is present with us—personally and permanently. He is our closest companion, our most loving friend, and our greatest helper.

A Real-Life Encounter with the Holy Spirit
One powerful testimony comes from Fr. Dominic Aippenparambil, who longed to understand the Holy Spirit as a Person.
For an entire year, he prayed, fasted, and prepared himself with one desire—to truly know the Holy Spirit. On December 6, 2009, during a retreat in Attapady, his life changed forever.
While praying early in the morning, he suddenly heard a voice:
“Do you know Me?”
When he opened his eyes, he saw a radiant figure filled with light standing before him. The voice spoke again:
“I am God’s Holy Spirit. Raise your hands and worship.”
As he obeyed, he experienced an overwhelming presence and power. It was not just emotional—it was real, personal, and transformative.
The Power of Forgiveness and Obedience
During this encounter, the Holy Spirit revealed something important—there was someone he had not forgiven.
He was shown that person and instructed to ask for forgiveness. The moment he obeyed, something shifted spiritually. This teaches us a powerful lesson:
Forgiveness is key to experiencing deeper intimacy with God.
The Holy Spirit then repeatedly told him:
“Ask Me.”
At first, he didn’t know what to ask. But slowly, he began to pray for blessings:
- For the homes he visited
- For the babies he baptized
- For the couples he blessed
Each time, the Holy Spirit responded:
“I will bless them.”
Then came a deeper calling—to heal the sick, preach the Gospel, and cast out demons. These were not just requests; they were spiritual responsibilities empowered by the Holy Spirit.
Living in the Reality of the Holy Spirit
Jesus Himself spoke about this intimate relationship:
“The Spirit of truth… abides with you and will be in you.” (John 14:17)
“Receive the Holy Spirit.” (John 20:22)
After Pentecost, the apostles lived in this reality—filled with power, boldness, and divine authority.
The same Holy Spirit is available to us today.

Final Reflection: The Holy Spirit is Your Closest Friend
The Holy Spirit is not distant or unreachable. He is near, personal, and deeply involved in our lives.
- He guides us in difficult times
- He comforts us in pain
- He empowers us for God’s purpose
If you truly seek Him, you will experience Him.
The Holy Spirit is not just someone to believe in—He is someone to know
